Reflection on Focus Group
Questions asked -
- Do you think the titles/logos fits my style of magazines?
- Are there any preferences of colour you prefer than most? If so, what are they?
- What kind of content would you expect or like to see in these magazines?
- What do you think about my magazine ideas? What is good about them?
- If you were buying these magazines, what would your first impressions be?
- Overall, which magazine idea is your favourite and why?
Overall, I feel the questions I asked got good answers, which have helped me make decisions about the my magazine ideas. At some points throughout the focus group, I didn't get answers with enough explanation so I had to re-ask the questions and sometimes clarify it through rephrasing the questions, which in turn helped me get a better answer. The best answers I got were from the question "Do you think the title/logo of these magazines fit the style?" as I got feedback from my group members about each magazine in detail. This question helped me decide which magazine I want to go with, while also giving me a better idea of what impression my magazine gives to the audience. These answers helped me improve my initial ideas and also helped me make decisions on what to go for, such as with the use of colour and font. For instance, I was recommended to change the font of Suave magazine as the calligraphy styled font may be too effeminate for men and wouldn't fit the idea of a mens fashion magazine. I was also suggested to use colours such as reds, blacks and blues, and on SPEAK magazine, use pink for the lips to make the magazine appeal to women.
